Paul HegyiPHYSICIANS: The California Medical Association (CMA) held its annual House of Delegates (HOD) meeting virtually on Saturday, October 23, 2021. Close to 600 delegates representing the component medical societies, specialty societies, and CMA sections and forums gathered. The Delegates received critical updates and provided feedback on important issues affecting members, the association and the practice of medicine. This year’s major issues were Racism and Other Barriers to Health Equity and the Corporatization of Health Care. I am particularly pleased to announce that former SDCMS President Robert E. Wailes, MD was installed as CMA President. Congratulations Dr. Wailes!

The SDCMS Nominations Committee has announced the annual call for nominations to the SDCMS board and officer positions. The committee will meet in December and prepare a slate of candidates for approval by the board next year and election in the spring. To be eligible for service on the SDCMS Board of Directors, physicians must have been active members of SDCMS for at least two years as of the date of assumption of duties: June 2022. Additionally, for Geographic Directors, physicians must have their primary practice located within the geographic district. On October 20th, the FDA amended the EUA for COVID–19 vaccines to allow for the use of a single booster dose as follows:

The use of a single booster dose of the Moderna COVID–19 Vaccine that may be administered at least 6 months after completion of the primary series to individuals:

65 years of age and older

18 through 64 years of age at high risk of severe COVID–19

18 through 64 years of age with frequent institutional or occupational exposure to SARS–CoV–2

The use of a single booster dose of the Janssen (Johnson and Johnson) COVID–19 Vaccine may be administered at least 2 months after completion of the single–dose primary regimen to individuals 18 years of age and older.

The use of each of the available COVID–19 vaccines as a heterologous (or “mix and match”) booster dose in eligible individuals following completion of primary vaccination with a different available COVID–19 vaccine.

To clarify that a single booster dose of the Pfizer–BioNTech COVID–19 Vaccine may be administered at least 6 months after completion of the primary series to individuals 18 through 64 years of age with frequent institutional or occupational exposure to SARS–CoV–2.
