Paul HegyiPHYSICIANS:  Please join your physician colleagues and honored guests at a wonderful event this Thursday evening at Paradise Point Resort. The SDCMS ‘Rendezvous by the Bay’ dinner begins at 6pm.

This event (formerly referred to as our ‘White Coat Gala’) brings together hundreds of physicians, their spouses and significant others, local, state and national legislators and other distinguished attendees to celebrate the installation of our incoming President.

We will be installing James H. Schultz, MD, MBA, FAAFP as SDCMS President for 2019—2020, and thanking David E. J. Bazzo, MD, FAAFP, CAQSM for his services as President for 2018—2019. San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer will provide welcome remarks. For more information and tickets, please CLICK HERE.

The first major state legislative deadline occurred this past week and I'm excited to report on numerous victories for physicians and patients because of  the advocacy team at the California Medical Association. State Senator Richard Pan, MD, succeeded in having SB 276, his legislation to tighten vaccine exemptions, move forward. AB 744, a bill to expand payments for Telehealth services, and AB 764, legislation limiting marketing incentives for sugar-sweetened beverages, both continue on. We can also be gratified that AB 890, the dangerous scope of practice bill, failed to move forward.

A lot is happening at the statewide level on health care policy and issues that impact the quality of life for our member physicians. I encourage you to try to stay up to date with all of the latest developments. One way to do so is reading the highlights from the California Medical Association's most recent Board of Trustees Meeting. You can find them if you CLICK HERE.

As always, let me know if you have any questions!  Paul Hegyi, CEO
