Paul HegyiPHYSICIANS: Monday was a major victory for California's doctors and their patients. After an intensive lobbying effort by the California Medical Association, Governor Newsom signed AB 149, which will end the confusion and countless problems caused by the flawed implementation of the state's new prescription pad law.

The law is now delayed until July of 2020 to ensure patients receive the medicine they need while the state designs a new system to better track prescriptions. Physicians will be required to order a new prescription pad by that date. The Legislature passed a new law last year which required new prescription pads as part of of an effort to track prescriptions for opioids but that law failed to provide the necessary timeline. AB 149 corrects that mistake.

I'd also like to encourage you to consider participating in the April 6th event organized by the Safe Homes Coalition as a volunteer and/or sponsor. The Keep Kids Safe San Diego Kickoff Event is designed to boost community education about preventing prescription drug theft or abuse. Over 200 volunteers will be going door to door to help residents better secure prescription drug medications or safely dispose of unwanted, unused or expired medications. As always, let me know if you have any questions!  Paul Hegyi, CEO
