Paul HegyiPHYSICIANS:  It's gratifying to share that Physicians for a Healthy California (PHC), the CMA's charity organization, announced this past week that more than $38 million in new state tobacco tax (Prop. 56) revenues have been awarded to graduate medical education (GME) programs across the California to fund 156 slots for physician residencies. We're pleased that San Diego County benefits.

These first "CalMedForce" grants will help address California's physician shortage, particularly in underserved communities. UC San Diego's Emergency Medicine will receive 2 slots while Sharp Chula Vista Family Medicine benefits from 1 position while the same holds true for Family Health Centers. The positions provided by this first round of funding go to 73 separate GME programs statewide located in hospitals, medical centers and community clinics.

On a lighter note, I want to thank so many physicians for attending our Physician Social Mixer last week at the National Geographic Gallery in La Jolla. It was a terrific location and so many of our doctors enjoyed the opportunity to see old friends and meet colleagues for the first time. Please be sure to attend our next one, on April 18th, location TBD.

As always, let me know if you have any questions!  Paul Hegyi, CEO
