As I've previously written, CalHealthCares, the non-profit foundation affiliated with the California Medical Association, is accepting applications for a new statewide loan repayment program that offers up to $220 million in tobacco tax revenues to pay off education debt for physicians who agree to see more Medi-Cal patients. Individual awardees will be eligible to receive as much as $300,000 to repay education debt incurred in pursuit of a medical degree. The program is for currently licensed physicians, residents and fellows who are enrolled Medi-Cal providers and commit to maintaining a 30% Medi-Cal caseload. $190 million has been set aside for physicians over the next five years. CMA is hosting a webinar to discuss how to utilize the Independent Dispute Resolution Process (IDRP) to appeal interim payments made under California's out-of-network billing and payment law (AB 72). This members-only webinar will be May 22, 2019, from 12:15-1:15 pm. The webinar will review the out-of-network billing and payment law, including when the law applies, appropriate billing practices, the new payment structure and the basics of how to appeal for additional reimbursement.
