A reminder that San Diego Blood Bank (SDBB) is issuing an URGENT call for blood donations, as mobile blood drives are being cancelled due to concern over COVID–19 cases amid the Delta surge. Over 50 mobile blood drives have been cancelled since the beginning of August. To date, SDBB has only a 3–day or less supply of most blood types on the shelves. A 7 to 10–day supply is considered ample.

SDBB is asking for individuals and groups to donate at one of their 8 donation locations or at an existing mobile drive as soon as possible. It’s crucial we spread the word!

To be eligible to donate blood, you must be at least 17 years old, weigh at least 114 pounds, and be in general good health. Eligible blood donors are encouraged to schedule an appointment at SanDiegoBloodBank.org or call (800) 4–MY–SDBB (1–800–469–7322).

The CalVax Grant deadline has been extended until October 15th. Individual practices may receive up to $55,000 to support vaccination efforts, and to be eligible, practices must complete Section A of the myCAVax application process.

Small practice providers can apply to receive $10,000 for up to five vaccination sites for a total of $50,000. Additionally, small practice providers can receive an additional $1,000 per site (up to five sites for an additional $5,000) if their vaccination sites match high priority areas as noted by the CDPH.

Contact calvaxgrant@phcdocs.org or call (916) 551–2565 for more information.

As always, let me know if you have any questions! Paul Hegyi, CEO
