Paul HegyiPHYSICIANS:  The SDCMS Nominations Committee has announced the annual call for nominations to the SDCMS board and officer positions. The committee will meet in December and prepare a slate of candidates for approval by the board next year and election in the spring. To be eligible for service on the SDCMS board of directors, physicians must have been active members of SDCMS for at least two years as of the date of assumption of duties: June 2020. Additionally, for geographic directors, physicians must have their primary practice located within the geographic district. The California Medical Association held its Annual House of Delegates (HOD) meeting in Anaheim recently with over 500 physicians participating. Delegates reviewed research and discussed policies that will form the key points of CMA's legislative advocacy work next year. A major focus was homelessness as a public health issue as well as the related negative impact on California's emergency rooms due to new state legislation on the matter. Dr. Ted Mazer, former President of SDCMS and CMA, represented our association and discussed these issues and the work of the House of Delegates with local media which you can see if you CLICK HERE.

I'd like to enthusiastically congratulate local physicians and CMA members David Bazzo, MD and Melissa Bishop, MD for being honored at the House of Delegates meeting. Dr. Bazzo received the 2019 California Medical Association Gary S. Nye Award for Physician Health and Well–Being because of His significant contributions toward improving physician health and wellness while Dr. Bishop was awarded the CMA's Compassionate Service Award for her commitment to community and charity work. Finally, some good news on the state's mandated sexual harassment prevention training deadline. The deadline has been changed from January 1, 2020 to January 1, 2021 and employers who trained their employees in 2018 can now maintain their two-year cycle and provide subsequent training in 2020 while still complying with the deadline. The new requirement clarifies that employers who train their employees in 2019 aren't required to provide refresher training until two years from the time the employee was trained.

As always, let me know if you have any questions!  Paul Hegyi, CEO
