SDCMS News You Can Use

TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 11, 2025

Paul HegyiPHYSICIANS: San Diego County Public Health Officer, Sayone Thihalolipavan, MD, MPH, just posted a new version of the County's Health Officer Flu Order. Prior orders say that they are in place until they are rescinded or a new one is in place, so this supersedes the last one.

The Order clarifies that the start date for the masking requirement for unvaccinated healthcare professionals is November 1. The document also includes new helpful framing language above the Order.

HCP Flu Mandates is the County’s dedicated page with the Order and other resources, including Influenza Prevention: A Guide for Healthcare Personnel.

While we are discussing the seriousness of what is likely another brutal flu season, we are grateful for the excellent job our own Dr. Toluwalasé (Lasé) A. Ajayi, former SDCMS President, performed on a round of television interviews to strongly urge San Diegans to get their flu shots.

SAN DIEGO BLOOD BANK OFFERS A1C TESTING TO ALL DONORS IN NOVEMBER FOR NATIONAL DIABETES AWARENESS MONTH

Those who successfully donate blood, platelets, or plasma to the San Diego Blood Bank from November 1–30, 2025 can receive A1C testing in honor of National Diabetes Awareness Month (en español). November is a time to raise awareness about the impact of diabetes and the importance of early detection and prevention.

Access to preventive care remains a challenge — one in three people in the U.S. lack regular primary care, and diabetes affects 1 in 10 Americans, with nearly a quarter undiagnosed according to the CDC. By offering this simple screening, the Blood Bank hopes to empower their donors with valuable information to help them better understand and manage their health.

Please share this news widely so that as many San Diegans as possible may avail themselves of this opportunity. A link to the San Diego Blood Bank’s blog with all the relevant information can be found HERE.
