More than 23,000 emergency room visits are associated with dietary supplement use in the U.S. each year. The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) Food and Drug Branch is asking physicians to take an anonymous 5–minute survey about their knowledge, attitudes, and practices when it comes to dietary supplement use. The objectives of the survey are to assess health care provider opinions and current level of knowledge surrounding dietary supplement use, adulteration and adverse events; to determine the frequency with which California health professionals document and discuss dietary supplement use with their patients; and to guide the development of data–driven educational materials for health care providers and their patients, which can ultimately reduce adverse events and improve human health.
