SDCMS News You Can Use

TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 3, 2026
Paul HegyiPHYSICIANS: Major political news today. In the open and crucial race for California Governor, the California Medical Association has endorsed Congressman Eric Swalwell.

“Congressman Eric Swalwell is the clear choice for California physicians because he understands that a strong health care system is the backbone of a strong economy and healthy communities,” said CMA President Reno Bravo, MD. “At a moment when our health care system is under enormous strain, we need proven, decisive leadership, and Eric Swalwell has shown he is ready to lead.”

Eric Swalwell has shown that he listens to physicians and health care workers, respects science and medicine, and works to advance practical solutions that improve care for patients across our state.

Swalwell has a record of supporting policies that strengthen the physician workforce, protect access to care, and advance public health, and is committed to mental health, reproductive freedom, and addressing the social drivers of health such as economic stability, access to a quality education and environmental safety.

Please join us in actively supporting Congressman Swalwell’s campaign. Health care issues will be at the center of what the next Governor of California will need to address. We need a Governor who puts patients and their physicians first.

REMINDER | SEE AMA PRESIDENT DR. BOBBY MUKKAMALA TOMORROW AT UCSD FROM 5:30 TO 6:30PM IN THE ACTRI AUDITORIUM

Dr. Bobby Mukkamala, the 180th President of the American Medical Association, will be giving a lecture at UC San Diego on Wednesday February 4th from 5:30pm to 6:30pm. The location will be the ACTRI Auditorium (Room 1W–210) at the Altman Clinical and Translational Research Institute at UC San Diego School of Medicine.

Dr. Mukkamala is an inspiring figure who overcame his own cancer diagnosis prior to assuming the AMA presidency. I’ve heard him speak before and I strongly encourage you to take advantage of the opportunity to hear important insights on medicine and national health care public policy.
