Paul HegyiPHYSICIANS: As coronavirus cases and hospitalization numbers surge across San Diego County, the State of California, and the nation, we encourage you to subscribe to the California Health Alert Network (CAHAN) for San Diego County if you haven't already done so. Please CLICK HERE. CAHAN Alerts will be increasingly important in the weeks ahead. We anticipate the Governor will soon issue a new Stay–At–Home order and we will continue to help keep you informed as new developments occur in what is likely to be a very challenging next month for all of us.

There has been a good deal of confusion about testing children for coronavirus. San Diego County HHS is encouraging you to review their COVID–19 Symptom “Decision Trees” for testing children. There are different ones depending on age and circumstance. For childcare CLICK HERE, K—12 CLICK HERE, or for Institutes of Higher Education and Trade & Vocational Schools CLICK HERE. The original CAHAN Alert providing guidance on this issue can be found if you CLICK HERE.

You might also find two upcoming webinars particularly useful. “Crisis Standards of Care and COVID–19: What's Working and What Isn't” is on Thursday, December 3rd at 9am Pacific and is sponsored by the HHS Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response's Healthcare Emergency Preparedness Information Gateway program. CLICK HERE for more information.

Physicians for a Healthy California, the non–profit affiliated with the California Medical Association, is also sponsoring a webinar “Virtual Grand Rounds: The National COVID–19 Surge and Hope for 2021” which is a conversation with state leaders and members of President–elect Joe Biden's Coronavirus Task Force. CLICK HERE to register for Tuesday, December 8th from 12:00—1:30pm.

On a happier note, a reminder that SDCMS wants to recognize San Diego County's most Outstanding Medical Office Manager / Practice Administrator, i.e., someone who goes above and beyond his or her job description, who anticipates problems before they arise, who works efficiently with the practice's time and resources, and who strikes the right balance between exercising control and boosting morale when supervising staff. SDCMS Member physicians can nominate their office managers by explaining in writing (up to 600 words) why their office manager is the BEST in San Diego County.

Nominations will be accepted through Thursday, December 31st, 2020. The winner will receive a $200 gift card and recognition as San Diego County's Outstanding Medical Office Manager for 2020! Contest results will also be published in the February 2021 issue of San Diego Physician Magazine. Please email your nominations to Hanna.Basler@SDCMS.org. Remember, only submissions from physician members will be considered.

As always, let me know if you have any questions! Paul Hegyi, CEO
