Paul HegyiPHYSICIANS:  Today, the Rare Disease California Caucus is hosting a hearing at the State Capitol that will focus on policy and health care access issues that impact rare disease patients. Co-Chaired by local State Assemblymembers Brian Maienshein and Marie Waldron, the hearing will also highlight caucus projects, such as this year's sickle cell disease budget appropriation, and spotlight a rare disease - amyloidosis. As you know, amyloidosis is a group of rare diseases in which the protein amyloid builds up in tissues and organs, such as the heart, preventing them from proper functioning. We are thankful for the work and leadership of Assemblymembers Maienshein and Waldron on these important health care issues which normally don't receive the attention that they deserve. Since my last email to you just two weeks ago, San Diego County now has its second reported case of measles this year. As news stories continue to pour in from across the state and the nation on the vaccination challenge created by ignorance and misinformation, it is clear that continued vigilance by the medical community is required.

As always, let me know if you have any questions!  Paul Hegyi, CEO
