Executive Director Comment: Here is a great example of what one doctor is doing to mobilize the patients and doctors whom he and his team are in touch with. Here is his email to me:

I want to share with you my efforts to propagate the message regarding Proposition 46 in the community. I am:

  • Wearing the No on 46 button every day and educating patients as well as office staff, visitors, industry representatives, and others.
  • Wearing the button to the hospital and visiting all the nurses' stations and educating them. I keep lab coat cards with me everywhere I go.
  • Showing the No on Prop 46 video … to patients in rooms equipped for video. Requesting the patients talk about Prop 46 to their family and friends. I provide lab coat cards with website and social media links to those interested.
  • Making copies of the No on 46 patient brochures and distributing it in both English and Spanish.
  • Going to community events such as picnics, birthday parties, and educating friends and family about the importance of voting No.

SAVING MICRA — NO ON 46!

Los Angeles County Democratic Party Opposes Prop. 46! Lambasting the measure as being “full of gimmicks” while “gaming” an important political issue, the Los Angeles County Democratic Party (LACDP) has voted overwhelmingly to oppose Prop. 46. With the California Republican Party having already come out in opposition to Prop. 46, and the statewide Democratic Party opting to remain neutral on the matter, having LACDP backing the “No on 46” campaign continues to round out our effort as bipartisan, diverse, and growing by the day.

Hospital Network Hacked, 4.5 Million Records Stolen: Click here to read the story. Most of the time, the way hackers get in are socially engineered fake emails with malware links that are designed to fool the users and get clicked. Be very careful, even with emails from people you know, as those people's personal contacts may have been compromised. If the above can happen to such a LARGE hospital network, then it can happen to ANY medical organization.

Use Best Practices and caution, and get your users to:

  1. Do not FIRST click on anything.
  2. HOVER (not click) over any hyperlinks you deem suspicious.
  3. COMPARE the link you see with the ACTUAL link that is exposed when hovering in the pop-up Tool Tip.
  4. If the links are DIFFERENT then it is a SCAM.
  5. SHIFT-DELETE the entire email (which bypasses the Deleted Items and is permanently deleted).

In addition get management to:

  1. Have your HIPAA officer review your specific HIPAA rules and training in place.
  2. Have another look at your business insurance to review the coverages offered in these breach cases and contact your insurance broker for clarification.

BENEFITS / PRACTICE MANAGEMENT

Ask Your SDCMS Physician Advocate, Marisol Gonzalez:

  • Member Question: I am a primary care physician who is in a Health Professional Shortage Area (HPSA), and I’ve also attested to participate in the Primary Care Incentive Payment Program (PCIP). Should I expect to receive incentive payments for both HPSA and PCIP?
  • Answer: Yes, you will qualify for both the PCIP (10%) and HPSA (10%) bonus payments. Both of these incentive payments will be paid out to you quarterly, and will be based on the actual amount paid, not the allowed amount.
