A Sampling of What’s Got San Diego County’s Physicians Annoyed …

A Message From Your Executive Director: The ABCs of SDCMS

SDCMS is a business, and you, our member physicians, are our customers. In the past, this statement would have been considered heretical. However, in today's difficult macro- and micro-economic environments and uncertain healthcare climate, and with a relentless focus on reducing costs and increasing revenues, medical societies must behave as businesses whose only goal is to please their customers — you!

2005 Physician Workforce and Compensation Survey

In 2002, the San Diego County Medical Society conducted the first physician workforce and compensation survey in San Diego County. A paper survey was mailed to all the then-known physician addresses in San Diego County. The results of that survey provided the first insights into the attitudes of physicians toward their work and workplace, in addition to quantifying the compensation environment for San Diego County.

Stuart A. Cohen, MD, MPH

San Diego Physician: Why did you choose to become a doctor?

Dr. Cohen: I was attracted to the profession since I was a young child because it seemed like a very honorable vocation. As I got older and narrowed down my career choices, I decided that I wanted to do something that would be mentally challenging, would allow me to actively engage with people, and would be different all the time. I think I ended up going into the right profession for the right reasons.
