Office Managers

A Medical Office Manager’s Job Is Never Done

Sylvia Aldama and Maria Marin

SDP: How long have you been working in healthcare?
Maria: Thirty years.
Sylvia: 23 years. We’ve worked together six years at this office.

SDP: What do you love most about your job?
Maria: It’s a challenge. It’s interesting. It’s new each day. Especially in our specialty, it’s not your typical office visit.
Sylvia: There’s so many changes, and it’s always evolving, keeping up with changes in medications and Medicare. It’s not boring!

SDCMS Announces Its Inaugural "Outstanding Medical Office Manager" Contest

Does your physician think that you are the best office manager in San Diego County? We want to hear about it! SDCMS wants to recognize San Diego County's most outstanding medical office manager, i.e., someone who goes above and beyond their job description, who anticipates problems before they arise, who works efficiently with the practice's time and resources, and who strikes the right balance between control and morale when supervising staff.

A Message From Your Executive Director

I often wonder who has the harder task: the physicians who see patients or the office managers who make everything work up to, but excluding, seeing the patients. This, our third-annual issue of San Diego Physician, is focused exclusively on physicians' office managers because we at the San Diego County Medical Society (SDCMS) recognize that absent effective support from office managers and the office staff, physicians cannot do their job of healing patients.

The Office Manager Advocacy Issue

We at the San Diego County Medical Society (SDCMS), in addition to doing everything in our power to support our member physicians, understand that their office managers need our support as well. That is why we have on staff, in addition to Marisol Gonzalez, our full-time physician advocate, Lauren Wendler, our full-time office manager advocate!
