County of San Diego health officials are urging local healthcare providers to enroll in the California Health Alert Network (CAHAN) before June 16, 2009, including those currently enrolled the County of San Diego Emergency Medical Alert Network (EMAN), which will officially transition to CAHAN on June 16, 2009. This conversion has become necessary for cost reasons but also to provide EMAN users with full access to CAHAN and with all of that system’s capabilities/features. To continue to receive public health alerts relating to San Diego County, it is imperative you enroll in CAHAN. If you choose not to, you will no longer receive alerts as of June 16, 2009.

If you are an EMAN participant, please follow the following instructions:

  • Step 1: Click here and type in your EMAN username and password. In the next screen that appears, you will either see: 1) “Set My Alerting Security Code” or 2) your current profile information. If “Set My Alerting Security Code” appears, follow steps 4, 5, 6, and 7 below. If your current profile information appears, continue to step 2.
  • Step 2: Review to make sure the information is current, make any necessary changes, then hit “Save.” “Profile successfully changed” will appear on the next screen.
  • Step 3: Under the “Actions” column on the left side of the screen, choose “Change My Alerting Security Code.”
  • Step 4: Enter a four-digit numerical code (usually the last four digits of your Social Security number). Click “Save” after entering the code twice.
  • Step 5: Under the “Actions” column, choose “Change My Alerting Profile.”
  • Step 6: “Create an Alerting Profile” screen appears. Click the gray button “New.”
  • Step 7: Enter an alerting profile name (suggested name: first and last name) and put a check in the “Set as Default” box. Fill out how you would like to be alerted for high, medium, and low-level alerts. Low-level alerts are email addresses only. Note: Make sure the selections you choose on how you want to be alerted match up with your personal profile information. After you fill your selections, click “Save.”
  • You have now completed the enrollment for CAHAN and are ready to receive alerts.
