PHYSICIANS: On September 1st, the County declared Hepatitis A a local health emergency. This past weekphysicians engaged in two important public events to help with the public awareness and to lend our expertise and efforts to the cause.
On Tuesday morning, we participated in a press conference with the city and county leaders to announce the "Vaccination, Sanitation and Education" campaign to urge the public to take appropriate precautions to help stop the spread of the virus. I have included a special news section below with the coverage from that morning.
On Tuesday evening, the SDCMS GERM Commission joined with the County of San Diego and held a "Hepatitis A Heath care Providers Meeting" at UCSD in Hillcrest. More thanone hundred were in attendance to share best practices and discuss what each institution and provider can do to help.
If you need to refer a patient for services, the best place at this time is www.211sandiego.org. If you are a provider and wish to volunteer to help with this situation the best place at this time is to register at www.healthcarevolunteers.ca.gov and select San Diego MRC. There may be more opportunities to be involved locally and on a more urgent basis and I will keep you informed as I find out about those.

As always, let me know if you have any questions! Paul Hegyi, CEO, SDCMS
P.S.Below is a picture from the press conference.
