Plastic Surgeon Forges a Bond With Patients That Lasts a Lifetime (April 2 La Mesa Patch)

Published April 2, 2011

Dr. Susan Kaweski moved her private practice to the historic James Morrison House in 2008.

A large, thick binder sits on a table in the waiting room at the Aesthetic Arts Institute.

On page after page are thank you cards and letters to Dr. Susan Kaweski, emotional messages of gratitude from patients who have had plastic surgery.

Some needed reconstructive surgery because of the ravages of cancer or congenital defects or tumors or trauma. Others simply wanted to look better and feel better about themselves.

Dr. Kaweski knows all their stories and feels a connection with every one.

In some professions, a person may never know the positive impacts he or she makes. Kaweski has the tangible testimonials.

“It’s really something to read these thank you notes,” she says. “It gives me encouragement and satisfaction, but you know I really try to make a bond with my patients and hopefully that’s what it shows in some of those thank you notes.

“Some of the babies that I’ve operated on now are teenagers or young adults and they still send me pictures of their graduations and their weddings, and that really is very touching. … It makes me feel really good about what I do.”
