Influenza Reporting for the 2010–11 Season (September 22, 2010)

Published September 23, 2010

Several cases of influenza have been reported in San Diego County since July 2010, including influenza A/H3 and influenza B. The County of San Diego Health and Human Services Agency (HHSA) will continue to monitor laboratory-confirmed influenza, particularly among selected populations and those with severe illness.

As the 2010–11 influenza season begins, HHSA requests that healthcare providers report all laboratory-confirmed cases of influenza A and B, including those diagnosed via rapid test. Confidential Morbidity Reports (CMR) should be faxed to the Epidemiology and Immunization Services Branch at (858) 715-6458 and should indicate if the case:

  • died
  • required ICU care
  • is pregnant

Public health monitoring of all types of influenza this season will provide important information about circulating strains and populations at risk. Reporting by healthcare providers plays a crucial role in defining the impact of influenza in San Diego County. For more information about influenza reporting, contact the Epidemiology Program at (619) 515-6620.

San Diego County healthcare providers are encouraged to immunize patients and office staff as soon as vaccine is available. Influenza immunization is recommended for all persons six months of age and older. This includes people who were immunized during the spring of 2010.
