Sample letter to the editor on H.R. 3961:

To the Editor:

Access to physician care for seniors, baby boomers, and military families is at risk because of a broken payment formula that projects steep cuts to physicians caring for Medicare and TRICARE patients. In fewer than 60 days, the payment formula projects a steep cut of 21% for next year, with more in years to come. The cuts will force many physicians to limit the number of Medicare patients they can treat.

America's patients are also worried: A recent poll by AMA and AARP found that nearly 90% of people age 50 and older are concerned that the Medicare physician payment formula threatens their access to care.

The U.S. House of Representatives will soon vote on HR 3961, the Medicare Physician Payment Reform Act of 2009, which is needed to preserve the security and stability of Medicare for seniors who rely on it now and the baby boomers who begin to reach age 65 in two years. As Congress makes new coverage commitments to the American public they must fulfill existing obligations to America's seniors through repeal of the Medicare physician payment formula. Please contact your member of Congress and let them know you support swift passage of HR 3961.
